Thanks for the add! Here's my system.

Kenwood KD-550 Turntable
SAE 180 Parametric EQ
Marantz Model 7 Pre Amp
Marantz Model 8 Power Amp
Nakamichi 480 Tape Deck

MB Quart Domain 40 Looking to upgrade with either Allison 1 or AR3 speakers to bring it back to complete original setup.

I've known this system since my early childhood. My Grandfather bought the Marantz pre and power amp (along with a bunch of other things I wish i still had) in 1960. It went into storage around 1982. My older brother had bought the rest.

I took ownership 3 years ago. I had the Marantz equipment restored and it is working fine these days. The system with the MB Quart sounds great, great speakers on the cheap to hold me over!

When my Grandfather had it he had AR3's running with the Marantz setup. My brother built another system around 1979 using the remainder of equipment you see along with a Crown power amp and a Hafler preamp. I was lucky enough to compare the Allisons and AR's together! Both were great to me! I've been on the lookout for a set of AR3's or Allison 1's for a local buy here in South Florida.

Your Grandfather and my Father had the same taste in the '60's..
Same set up... MARANTZ 7 and 8 with ACOUSTIC RESEARCH AR-3a.
McIntosh MR 67 Tuner
I was just starting HI FI in the 70's, and, I had the McIntosh 6100 with JBL Century L-100s.
His sounded better.. Sheees,, :)

Nice System, brings back memories. Back in 1979 when I was looking to upgrade my Original Large Advents, I auditioned probably 30 different speakers including the AR-3a, AR-11, AR-14, Allison One, Two, Three and JBL L100, L110 and L150. Those were the days when there were multiple audio stores to audition equipment. I can recall 9 stores within a 20 min drive from my house.

Good to see another Marantz enthusiast in the area. My 8b has given me 29 years of trouble free service in my main system.

It sure is. I had a chance to pick up a 7 in the mid 90’s but I thought it was too expensive at $1,800. Wish I had gone for it . It would have been a nice companion to my 8b.

I run the 8b in triode mode, 18 watts or so into Spendor S3/5’s. Great for what I listen to.
