My stylus just skated.....

brefly across a record, by a cord bumping the tonearm. It is an original Shure V15 vxmr stylus with little hours. It did not damage the record, and from what I can see and hear, not the stylus either. Do you think the Shure stylus system in the brochure saved this one? And, if I ev were to sell it, did it damage it's value?

One of Shure's big selling points for that particular cartridge was that it has a built in safety feature for just such an event. They called it the "Side Guard Stylus Protection System." Basically, they claimed that the cantilever could safely withdraw up into the stylus housing in the event of a horizontal thrust. The M97xE still has that feature today.

But I heard the classic "zzzzzzzzz" sound. How could the stylus have been drawn up into the body? I do remember reading that though

From the body of the cart riding on the record. Try an old junk record and a cart with a stylus with a broken tip. It'll skid across the record and pick up the friction of the skid as "zzzzzzzzzz" noise.
