it gets really loud and distorts before it trips

Then you must have the volume at 75% or so. I do not know about the SU-V9 (although I have one, but it's in storage), but for instance an SU-8088 starts clipping at a little over 50% of the volume scale (1 kHz test signal, 8 ohm dummy load). An SU-650 even at around 35%. In real life clipping will be at higher levels I guess, but it would be interesting to see when the V9 starts clipping.

Still, it shouldn't trigger protection. I've done a couple of rebuilds of Technics amps, most of them suffer from bad electrolytics, specifically those generating relatively much warmth. The V9 will probably do that, especially yours .

maybe i am wrong and it should not shut off the sound so soon

if i turn down the source or the volume and cycle power it works again.

now it does not sound like it is clipping or anything - it just disconects the speakers
activates the speaker relay.

still gets loud.

it is not over heating

wow reading my old posts is painful
my su v9 still works
no repairs
it will or does kill the fun when it is over driven
cycling the power switch resumes the sound
somehow I changed the font size on my tablet
very very tiny but only on AK and ebay
