...Believe it or nutz, I DO have an audio system. It's nowhere near as fancy and/or impressive as most of the others 'round here, but it suits me. The heart of it is my Yamaha RX-V1 receiver. I might be the only one here w/one of these beasties. It replaced a Yammy CA-2010 amp & CT-1010 tuner that got zapped by lightning in Y2K. It has an 8-channel amp, the main power output is 110 watts p/channel. It also has a BUNCH of digital signal processing settings, you can supposedly make yr music room sound like a nightclub, an auditorium, a church, a movie theatre, whathaveyou. I'm driving as my main speaks, 4 WSC-1As, have a Klipsch subwoofer, & center speaker, & 4 RCA/Ratshak 40-5003 "aux" speakers. I have a Harmon-Kardon CDR-20 CD recorder/player, & a Yammy KX-W421 dual cassette deck. My TT, I'm ashamed of, it is an RCA RatShak Lab-1200 TT...Maybe one day, I'll finally get one of them swanky Empire TTs that I've lusted for all these years...Also, I have a Kenwood KC-6060A scope/panadapter, which is quite useless, but kewl as all get out to watch...So, whaddya think, guys/gals ? It ain't the most bestest system ever, but it works well for me...Like I said, the only thing I'd like at this point would someday upgrade to a better TT. But in all other respects, I'm happy...An' y'all thought all I did was cause Hate 'n' Discontent in the off-topic forums...(grin)

You listen to music, Sandy?! Never woulda guessed. That RX-V1 does look like a beast, 20 pound transformer! :yikes: BTW, I've always lusted after one of the high end Empire TTs too, 598 maybe?

I've got those options too on my Sony TAE-1000 ESD (1989). So that technology is 20 years old and you used to be able to pick them up on ebay for $50, but I've not seen many around lately.

I would say your speakers are your weakest link.
 
Sandy, if you like what you hear, that is all that matters, my friend. I know a guy with a Yamaha AV receiver and it sounds magnificent. Yours is nothing at all to be ashamed of.

Personally, I really like the digital delay surround sound music systems. I know I have really enjoyed the few that I've heard and wanted to setup one of my own. It sounds like you really enjoy yours and in the end that's all that counts!

Some years back, I had a close friend that had a really nice delay system, built around one of the old ADS analog delay units w/ the on-board amplifier and a Sansui integrated amplifier. It was a wonderful sounding system! I've never forgotten that system and how much enjoyment we got from it, when going through his music collection.

Several years back, I purchased a pristine Yamaha DSP-1 off ebay and have been iching to get a quality surround sound delay system setup around this unit and making music. Sometime soon, I hope! :music:

If you are happy with it, then that's all that matters. I too run a newer Yamaha HT receiver on my main system and think that it's great. The last few years, I've been running a Yaqin MS-12B tube preamp with it. I'm very happy with it and don't care what anyone else thinks.:D

No, the R-390As & modern audio stuff really don't gee 'n' haw too well together...But that's true of almost all the old military Boatanchor gear. Besides, the military deliberately cut off the frequency response of both the "low" & "high" audio frequencies, so even if you do find a way to "Redneck engineer" it all, it still don't sound too good. The only part of my system that basically isn't quite up to snuff is the dreadful little TT...It spins at 45 & 33, & that's about it. I still have trouble w/the speaker wire/connections, whoever designed all that **** oughta hafta try to actually USE it... I guess Japanese have smaller, more nimble hands that ain't full of Uncle Arthur-But me & my palsied Meathooks have a HELLUVA time trying to get it all hooked up right...

I always thought you were the type of man that made your own instruments & played them under the moonlit skies! :D

Sounds like a nice system & if you like it, that is certainly all that matters.
