Welp wife got the audio system in the divorce. Was a funny conversation actually:
me: "So I guess I'll take the audio system, you don't need it."
her: "I was hoping to keep it. I'm too spoiled now for regular audio."
me: "lmfao, uh, yeah, ok. I don't have any place for it right now anyway and I can always build another system."
me: "I just want the amp we bought for Christmas that I said we needed but really didn't
." (because the Yamaha RX-A2A can power the speakers--just not like the Emotiva!)
So I did leave behind a pair of SVS Prime towers that I really miss, but otherwise I seem to have recovered.
My room is absolutely terrible (you see the wooden walls and where the left speaker is in the corner), but I'm making do until I can find a place of my own. At which point I'll probably look into adding a dedicated DAC and higher end preamp.
System (stereo):
Speakers: amateur-restored KLH Model 32s, re-capped and re-doped
Power: Emotiva Gen2-XPA7 (obviously only using stereo)...and yeah, probably overpowered for my setup
preamp/switch: cheap Schiit SYS (perfect for my two inputs)
bluetooth: 1 Mii Bluetooth receiver
Analog:
the beast with its buddies (this was supposed to be for my HTS, and I imagine will be in the future)
what are we listening to?

Through extensive help from Gemini, I eventually settled on the KLH Model 32s with a planned restore. Found some on ebay (~$150) in good condition. All-in-all I'm happy with the restore--probably not the best job--but I definitely changed the way the speakers sound (can see it clearly through spectrograph of my A/B test) and I'm gonna just go with: "I improved them"

- re-capped with Dayton audio capacitors (the +/-1% at 4 micro-farads)
- cut small mdf board, attached cap with hot-glue and zip tie
- added rubber padding tape on the bottom (between where it connects to speaker cabinet).
- soldering job was not good here
- added weather sealant for gasket replacement
- (attempted) to re-dope with Roy C's goo (I think I may have caught one of the last batches)
- I don't think I did a great job here. I should have waited much longer between successive coats (like more than a day), but was way too impatient.
