Mystery DLK’s

So I have a set of 1 1/2’s and a set of 3’s. They are great speakers. Today I grabbed this set for $25 that look like Klipsch KG4’s. They have 2 - 8” woofers and a horn tweeter in them. The grill has a DLK logo and the back has a serial number sticker.

Any ideas on what they are? See the pics and let me know. I can’t find any other speakers that look like this online.

Thanks!

Those are Domus Model 2's; I used to own a pair. After a lawsuit forced DLK to stop using the DLK branding on their speakers, they branded their speakers as Domus instead.
I've never seen a pair of Domus 2's that were still branded as DLK before. Must have been made in a pretty narrow window of time.

Interesting about the lawsuit. Do you happen to know why they were sued?

DLK began as the house brand for Schaak Electronics. Schaak (or the remnants thereof) later sued Don Kliewer over the brand name, so he was forced to change the name to Domus.

One of several occasions when someone lost the rights to their own name (Mark Levinson, anyone?).

Thanks for reaching out. Hoping they perform like the DLK’s I have. I love the history of it all too. I found some Koss 1020’s a year ago and started learning all about those too. Such cool cabinets.

personally, i think DLK quality is among the best for cabinets, fyi, Minnesota Quality is renowned, particularly in first version(Framed Speaker Foam/Round crossover plate). With the financial pressures Schaak was putting on DLK to cut costs, quality did suffer somewhat towards the end of production.

i have not yet performed direct comparison between V1/V2(fabric grill)

Still working on my restorations. The only model I need to add to the collection is the subwoofer on wheels, and I may grab a pair of the modular's(rounded corners) to see how they fit.

For my restoration, i'm planning on eliminating the foam grill and replacing with a frame/fabric attached to the original fiber boards. So far that is working very well. My 4's need something different for grills(missing when I purchased). I'm using screen frame, and attaching the round over molding with fabric over that. Should like terrific
