MAJOR EV mystery speaker score

I was at the local GW this afternoon and found these. I know they are electrovoice. I don't know what model. Even more strange, how do you hook them up? No connectors or binding posts????

See the pics.

Anyone got an idea what these are? How do you connect them? I can easily run wire through one of the unused screw holes but is that right?

Anyone got specs on these monsters. BTW they are about 24" wide, 26" tall and 18" deep and probably weigh in at about 60 pounds each.

I surely don't know, but I'm thinking the cab's been modified judging from the photos. Can that massive coax driver really be mounted to a thin plywood panel, itself held to the cabinet front by only 4 corner screws?! Kinda looks that way.

Maybe the back panel is modded also, with the level pot now where the connection terminals once were. Or replaced altogether -- a work in progress -- and the connectors were never installed.

The cabinets look beautiriffic, and so do the drivers. A worthy find whether or not stock original speaker systems.

There are 3 posts, 1 black, 2 red. there should be a jumper wire between the 2 red ones. Just hook up your negative to the black, and your positive to either of the red (Assuming the jumper is there, if not, make one your self) and you are good to go!

I found a number written on the back, almost completey wron off. it is 116a. That isn EV speaekr model. I haven't been able to confirm this is actualy what I got yet though.

The cabinets are barzelay(?) and can be found with many different drivers from the period.

Note to self......

"8" and "B".......two different critters.........oh, well...

No big whoop..........willhowl:sigh:

P>S. the HiFi Lit site has lotsa great old scans.......

Actually, it has nothing to do with ththe thin air, more like the wide open expanses of space between my ears.

For reals, I was refering to the model of the ev cabinet/speaker system as a whole. Turns out they are not ev cabinets.

Nice find.I am always on the lookout for EVs.With those big floor cabinets I would think they sound great on that elevated partition you have them on.So how do they sound?
