Mystery KEF speaker?

Audi0

Picked these speakers up for 20 bux at the local thrift. Drivers looked good so bought them on the spot. The name shurlyn? Does not ring any bells with me. What the Internet is saying it's some sort of regional product made by KEF? Anybody have any info on them or remember seeing these back in the day? How good are these KEF drivers?

Cabinets are just trashed and the glue on the Surrounds is letting go in a few spots.

Tried to open them but drivers are glued in place. Its a tar like glue. Too much effort in my opinion with a heat gun. They were going to go in my garage as bench speakers as the cabinets are super fubar. What I've read it's a local canadian company that didn't sell a whole lot of speakers. I going to agree with what is said above it looks like a seas tweeter with a unknown woofer and passive radiator.

Its a very good tweeter by the way and i suspect the other drivers may also be Seas. What do they sound like? I would be looking at building new cabs for them, and of course recapping the crossover.

Got one to many project on the go to be concerned with them (I recently had to throw out psb 6t projects due to storage space). The only thing I Plan to do is touch up the surrounds were there lifting and put them in storage. I lack the skills to build a nice finished cabinet. Will give them a good listen tomorrow and write a small review on them for future reference.

Well no review yet. Was listening to them for a bit today. Nothing in depth but so far I would say that these are without doubt good speakers. Nothing over the top though. I would put them in same budget catagory as paradigm titans v1. As they dont cost alot and sound dam good for the money. I did find they need some juice to open up the Soundstage. At times it was a little trebble but it is a balanced sound overall. Lows are good but seem single note sometimes below 70hz. Will give way better review later when I get time. Have to deal with the surrounds issue. The foam underneath the rubber is decaying. Which is an oddball design by speaker driver standards.

You wont know anything until you pop those drivers to see what they are and check the crossover out...strange looking baskets from the front..and surrounds..without a doubt they need new caps. I would just throw some PVA glue under the rubber lifting.

The woofer looks like a Dalesford. They were very good-quality Kef alternatives. I'd say the speakers have a lot of potential, and a restoration (or a new cabinet) and a crossover recap would likely surprise you.

The name is very likely an homage to a good marriage, like Spendor and Harbeth. These are similar-quality speakers.
