Very old thread. I have posted on this before The "Scott" HiFi gear has nothing to do with EH Scott, they were out of business in the early 1950,s this Scott was in MD. HH Scott sued because this Scott tried advertising nationally after not doing this for years, where as HH Scott was, so they won and the MD Scott changed their name to Ravenswood. I have one of their rare Wall Speakers very Mid-century

EH Scott and McMurdo-Silver were among the originators of hifi audio. The late 30s was an interesting time, you had even more pedestrian makes like Philco and Zenith making some serious efforts at wide frequency range reproduction. The Philco 38-690 had variable IF bandwidth and a bi-amp configuration with multiple drivers to reproduce a wider frequency range than the typical radio of the day. The Zenith Stratosphere and Crosley WLW had bi and tri-amp arrangements with a bunch of drivers as well. These were certainly not low end radios, just they happened to be made by people who did make basic 5 tube tabletops as well. Scott and McMurdo only made high end gear.
This was also the era of tube count wars, the more you had the more expensive the radio could be, My Philco 39-116 is advertised as a 14 tube set. One of them is in the remote control, and I think 5 of them are used purely for the remote circuit. That leaves you with 8 tubes for the actual radio. Its a decent performer but it sounded better to sell it as a 14 tube set than an 8 tube with extras.

Hey Kenny, So glad your still around! I hope the concert went well!! Thanks so much for getting back with me. Yeah, I was catching some flack for reviving your old post... But the way I saw it after researching for days online, and as you and I know how rare these late relabeled E H Scott units are, I had no other option. These are truly rare. The closest I found on this unit was actually searching on here. You and this other post of a Craigslist ad in NY (see pic below of the NY EH Scott on CL). Both the one you had and mine are without a case leading me to believe these are pulled from a console. As for the wires it's three removed and only two terminals on the 3 terminal can were disconnected. Being it's no schematic I'll have to kinda come to a conclusion biased on the schematic of another unit which of the two get combined one one terminal. No worries, Im an ex electronic technician. Electronics has always been a hobby and worked several years as an electronic tech assistant in a television repair shop back in the 90's
Pictured below, the 1960 model E.H. Scott console Model 622 I found on AK. I was excited just to get a model number thinking it'd lead me to something close to search with online but it still nothing
Kenny, thanks for the pm reply concerning the high voltages associated in tube amps. Im very aware. My last HV tube amp project was gutting a single end EL84 Zenith stereo tube amp stripped out of a console. For that I started from scratch, stripped the chassis to bare bones, rebuilt it piece by piece, point to point using a schematic I found online. It sounds amazing and had that for many years in my listening room. This is the project Im on now, that and I have a Dynaco ST-70 refurbish to get started on soon.

I think that tuner is a Stromberg-Carlson piece with a different faceplate. I forget the number but its an AM and an FM unit bolted together with a common face. The S-C version has a magnifier lens over the numbers as well.
The amplifier looks for all the world like an S-C ASR-433 or 333 with a different face. The two are effectively the same except the 433 has a mag phono stage and the 333 does not.

I'm glad I'm still around too Doug,cause I've just retired at 66,and I'm certainly hoping to finally have some fun,after working for 50 years,ha,ha!
Happy to hear you know your way around old tube gear electronics etc.we have a challenged Daughter so safety round here was/is paramount,and I tend to catastrophe-size some times,sorry bout that,working on it..
I've been away from here for far too long,its such a great site,pretty sure tube safety was covered eons ago,from the old guard I remember on here,when I joined.
I think only some products were shipped to Canada,I remember finding some minty Bozak speakers(12 in Coax),inside some Beautiful hardwood cabs, made in Canada using Bozak components,the women said her Grandpa custom ordered them,cost a lot of money back then.
Likely cheaper to make the cabs here because the wood products were cheaper to source.
It never ceases to amaze me what Old Canadians have had Squirreled away in there basements,some of it till they pass.The pickers shows brought much of that to light,mainly because of its value.
I'm Lucky I find one excellent find during my Summer of Scrounging in old stores,estate sales,garage sales and thrift shoppes.
You know,I never thought that unit might have been a console pull,but that makes total sense now why our cages were missing,duh,Thanks you learn something new everyday!
Wow,those two units look really nice together,something about old tube gear-n-real wood,like a vintage car both have true character,I've always liked old stuff,its around because for the most part was well built,no cheap parts like some of the imported tube stuff of today,we will not go there..
Kind of drifted away from tubes after selling off our Altec Model 19's,and moved on to Open Baffle speakers,sold off my Eico ST-70 to a friend too.
I also recall an absolutely huge(transformers,bigger than Mac's),a crazy heavy Stromberg Carlson,came out of a top of the line console made in Montreal.
My tech friend switched it over to 13w Triode,and I remember my Daughter,when we were watching a Gwen Stephani concert,saying...'Its Like Gwen is in the room with us'...what beautiful mid-range it had,however,my back sure a heck doesn't miss seasonally dragging that 60 lb room heater,out to the man cave,that's for certain.
You sound like my tech friend Dan,he re-does old Eico-Hf-81's starting from bare chassis.I had 3 of those too,but they all ran so hot was afraid my Son would burn down the house,was before they re-manufactured the Mains transformers.
And,the Scott stuff is getting pretty dear now a days,as are good sounding tubes.
Now that I'm retired,I'll keep my eyes/ears open for any Scott schematics,etc..
Currently only use tubes in a Hybrid Phono Stage/Pre-amp Dan built over 12 years,they built 2,tweaking the MM Phono stage to go with his LP 12.
Also like my older Sugden AU-41,amp & pre,gives a warmer,smooth sound,quite similar to tubes,and has an excellent MC stage,I use for lp's
Many of the dvd concerts we like to watch are all over the map,as it costs a lot to make good sound and picture,so I use above Hybrid pre line stage with a tweaked budget Niles amp,gives our concerts a little ooooooph,plus takes the edge off any strident guitar solo's,etc.,and a very enjoyable sound texture to Vocals and back up vocals.
Good luck on your ST-70 Dynaco,you know that's one amp,I've never tried,but kind of wish I had,I still like tubes,just too bad the good old tubes are getting so pricey!
The Zenith sounds cool,I know much of the old gear was given new lives,because the newer caps were closer spec than the originals,so if it was a good design,you had a winner.
I think I remember, years ago,guys pulling Magnavox tube amps(I think?),and restoring them.Great fun,Great Sound!
