Mystery speaker maybe small Heathkit Altecs?

Before and after Science
So I talked to a seller today with these mystery speakers, she said they might be Heathkit Altecs from her father but wasn't too sure. Does this ring a bell? Possibly I see some horns under the grill cloth. They also look AR1ish.

At any rate I go pick them up at 4 p.m. today.

Lets see some good pics when you get them home, they're not screaming Altec or Heath to me, better pics could change that however.

I think it's just a camera artifact, but the one pic almost looks like you can see the ports of upside down A-25's but i don't think those are A-25's

They look like Heath and they could have Altec drivers but they could be Utah or Univeristy drivers as well.

post pics whn you get them...

You mean Dynaco A-25s? They look too big to be A-25s IMO, and the wood finish is wrong it's lacquer. It also looks like they might be sitting on top of some bigger speakers.

I think I do some multicell horns under the speaker cloth.

Just worked on a pair of AR3a's today - the cabinets on these are solid walnut - maybe that can rule out them being AR's - IMHO

Heath sold raw drivers and empty cabinets just as many retailers did in the 60s. This means there's any number of things that might be inside.

Interior pics are about the only way to really know.

Cheers,

David

Very close Kreichenbach EMI 630 with funky metal grills, an oval co-axial driver, heavy cabinet, surprisingly good bass and rolled off highs. I talked her down to 25 and I am giving them to my mom to use with a Sansui 2000 receiver.

Recapping might be a good idea -- they aren't going to have a hot high end, but should be relatively balanced. The tweeters aren't special, but the elliptical driver has some real merit. I wonder if EMI put them in too small boxes.
