Mystery Speaker

AR-3a

New Member
Can anyone help me ID this speaker? I used to have a pair and I would like to find another set,
They were 3-way acoustic suspension; 12" woofer, extremely heavy appx 50#. I remember it was recognizable
Japanese brand from around 1970-1980s. Notice the woofer top and bottom are trimmed not the sides e.g. AR. Also the screens covering both the mid and tweeter is unique. They were some of the best sounding full range speakers I had ever heard

That midrange sure looks familiar, I think someone called it the "eye midrange" last week.

Lots of smart folks here, someone should be able to identify the speaker.

Let's hope they aren't the Onkyos that didn't have crossovers in them - they were meant to be used with a receiver that had separate bass and treble amps (and the mid/tweeter crossover) built in. Obviously you can also use an electronic crossover and three amps, but that's getting complicated.
