mystery speakers

Speakers with no badges usually means "don't do it". They look like cheap and cheerful DIY HT speakers.

This bugs me: "Some drivers still work. At least one high frequency driver needs to be replaced."

Woofers look like generic GRS ones from parts express.

They look like Koss M80's, if I remember correctly... but, don't hold me to that! I've only seen the Koss in pictures.

I don't think so...........

The Audax tweeters are worth 45 bucks each. They'd cost twice that or more new.

I didn't see that at first, definitely agree with you.

They look like nice quality units. I tried looking up "Spheric" but only came up with (not surprisingly) round speakers of all sorts.

OTOH, the devil is in the details, and the narrative states that only -some- of the drivers still work.....

Spheric High-End Speakers that sound great new.
Great foundation for a do-it-yourselfproject.

The cabinets are oak and very sturdy built.

Those look to be good quality. Can't tell about the woofers but the tweeters look good. It's too bad one doesn't work... but it can be anything. The thing here is that this is a very nice cab! Looks to be good construction. If heavy - then I'd be getting them. As the ad says - great for a project. D'Appolito configuration and two ports (with inserts) lends itself nicely to some speaker fun. Try $25-30. I think there's at least that much value in there if not the full asking or more (if the woofer/mids are good quality).

based on the seller's description, i bet there's a loose wire.

hmmm.... where's Kingston, MA?

Probably Spheric Helix. Designed as a center channel speaker, 2 4" mids and a tweeter. Original retail in '95 was $100 each.

Info from Orions Audio Blue Book, 1997 edition.
I love that book.

Crazy - I'm actually trying to sell two NOS empty cabinets that are identical to those. Down to the veneer.

So, most likely DIY. Very high quality cabinets.

seller says the tweeter cuts out because of a faulty attenuator in back.
we'll see....

I glanced at the pics from my phone, and it's been several months since I've seen a pic of the Koss... so I figured I wasn't right. But, they do have a rough "similarity" to them.

i was thinking DIY or white van.

i might lob $10 his way and see what happens...

Definitely not white van. The cabs and drivers seem to have some style and subtlety. Most white vans that I see try too hard to look expensive, where these simply look to be of a very good quality. Also, not DIY, in the made from scratch sense... possibly DIY, in the "kit" sense that audiomagnate suggested.

They look like Madisound kits.

I've heard the name, but I'm not familiar with the Madisounds. They could be, though. They do have a kit type look to them.

I wouldn't want to suggest 'My Lifes' certainty on it, simply because it would be foolilsh to do so via nothing other than a pic' however I myself own a pair of the M/80Plus (heavy little buggers too, right?) and those in your pic' are exactly identical looking to mine. If you're still interested in determining their Manufacturer, Model etc' let me know and I'll post some detailed photo's (inside and out) for your comparison purposes.
