NAD 2140 drops right channel under moderate load

Moderately loud volume, fed from an Audioquest Dragonfly Red off my iMac Pro... my old NAD 2140 amp cuts out on the right channel after a couple minutes. Happens with or without the soft clipping engaged. Output is very good, clean, not overly loud. Via ELAC Debut 6.0 DB62 speakers, rated 6 ohms (4-8) and 120 watts.

All cables of new construction, no shorts, properly wired, phased. Amp apparently overloading (unnecessarily?), as it resets in a few minutes. Is there something I can do? Check the circuitry for failing component? Handy with soldering iron, still learning to use scope, have test gear. Point me in the right direction...? Thanks.

UPDATE: Must shut off amp power awhile to reset.

Make sure there are no tiny single strands of wire contacting adjacent terminals on both the amp and speakers…
 
Check whether the amp runs hot, and if so, on both sides equally.

You might also want to take a look at DC offset at the speaker terminals, idle current and other adjustments.

No... all clear, and the amp terminals seems to be well sectioned off from each other, to prevent shorting... on the speaker side of things, fresh/new cable, no issues there, but thx...
 
Typically 'dirty' relay points break the connection at low levels. Then when encreasing level the current 'punches' through the bad connection again.
Should be two square units near the speaker output terminals.
Also when you turn the unit off-on the relays wil move off-on and make a 'new' connection.
Clean- or better replace relays if worn or 'dirty'
 
NAD 2140s do not have speaker protection relays. I would suspect it's an old dry solder joint that's letting go after it has warmed up. As others have stated, try switching cables to see if it's actually your power amp that's causing the problem. Switch the input cables first (L to R, R to L), if the left channel drops out, then it's not your 2140. If the right channel still drops, try switching the speaker cables next. If the problem moves over to the left channel, the problem is with the 2140. Next, try the speaker B outputs, if the problem goes away, then your speaker selector switches need cleaning.
