hi everyone, ive just got myself a nad 3020a amp and upon powering it up it is making a loud pulsing noise which is coming through the speakers and lighting the power led,s up like a xmas tree! any ideas what is going on here would be much appreciated! when i unboxed it i plugged it in without anything connected (speakers or input source, cd etc) and it was doing it and my heart sunk but connected the speakers up anyway only to be dissapointed. also to note that the metal jumpers were missing between the pre and main but i had a set of small interconnects which i tried as well but with the same result unfortunately. here is a link of a video of the amp in (in) operation :
thanks for any ideas.

Yea its "motorboating".

Disconnect it from your speakers until this is diagnosed.

Are you getting that in both channels - does it happen on all inputs?

What is the history of this unit - has it been used, or has it been sitting for years unused?

i was told it was in" good working condition". no idea of history was told it has been in dry storage and was fully functional but it obviously has a problem. what exactly is" motorboating" is it to do with pre amp or power section and its happening without any input as soon as its powered on. thanks for the quick reply.

I would return it if possible and get a different unit - perhaps B&K or Arcam surround receiver for about the same coin on ebay...

thanks guys, seller accepted the return without question so obviously knew there was a fault. why do people do that? like im just going to accept a duff unit and flush my money down the toilet! anyway fate might have intervened here as there is a guy local selling a pioneer sa-506 for the same money. any opinions on this amp? seen a few videos on youtube and seems decent enough from what you can gather from a video on youtube. at least i am getting an audition of the amp as he,s local to me. the only fault he says are the lamps are not working in the meters (meters are functional) and he says these can be had on the bay for a few quid. had a search and can see bulbs for similar model numbers but not actually the 506. would they be cross compatible across the model range? thanks for any input guys.
