NAD 3020 -What's it need?

Hi all:

I got an NAD 3020 recently that I was using as a preamp with my Rotel RB990BX. I love the sound, but the NAD has a loud "bump" on shutdown, and the other day I thoughtlessly turned the NAD off before I turned off the amp and it blew all 4 output fuses in the Rotel. I assume the "bump" is the NAD sending out some voltage through the outputs when it's shut off? Rather than risk making the same mistake again and possibly doing more damage, I'd like to eliminate the surge from the NAD. Is there a way to do this (relatively) easily? I'm not up for a complete recapping of the NAD at this point, I'd prefer just to isolate this specific problem.

I had a 3020 years ago, it made the same "thump" at shutdown. I currently have one rebuilt by @leesonic, it does it too. I do not believe it is uncommon, in its DNA. I never considered it loud. Perhaps Lee will chime in.
 
Early or later 3020? If it's an early one, they had no muting on the preamp outputs, later ones had a muting circuit. This is slightly different to the switch off thump that you get from a 3020 used as an integrated.

That's not a thump... that's an on rush of current to blow fuses? Lee is the only authority I know on Nad's and seen his work posts before the new forums and really looks good as well as they sound when "fixed". (no affiliation to lee.. just a big fan)

If the unit has not been serviced in a while or never.. I gather the caps are like a time bomb.. but Nad's have excellent circuitry design.. e.g. lee's work.
but there are many other rebuilders who follow a near total rebuild for optimum thus they pay for the restore over perhaps a couple of $yards more for another restored or perhaps 'just got going quick fix job' off aboy.

I would shelf for now and either learn to solder or trade. Could post pics. lee would pic on a pic if could closer clarity. probably tell you which resistors to replace, too. or if the unit has a mute circuit. serial number might help if early model.
