NAD 3100 VS NAD 3150

Hey everyone!

I've had a tough time finding some insight and user experience between these two NAD amps. I'm currently running Pioneer HPM 100s and if I remember correctly they're 50 watts per channel. Right now I'm trading an amp and have been deciding between a used NAD 3100 and a used 3150.

Anyone have experience with these? Difference between the two? Any one better for Pioneer HPM 100s?

I've refurbished several 3150's and I love them. The problem is a 3150 will have electrolytic cap issues if they still have the original caps. Every unit that I've recapped has had defective leaky caps. The result of defective caps, or caps that are out of tolerance, will be a muddy flat sound.

I've never seen a 3100, but I have serviced 2 2100's. This is the same as the 3100 but just the power amp. These can have relay issues. But, the 3100 is 10 years newer than the 3150. As far a reliability goes, the 3100 should be better in that category. I believe the 3100 has better caps than the 3150.

Both amps have the ability to deliver more watts than there rated outputs. They also will deliver very high power for short bursts. The 3100, for example, is rated at 60 watts per channel, but can put out 200 watts for short term (IHF Dynamic Power)

This nice thing about both of them is you can bridge them and get a second power amp. The 3150 matches with the 2150 power amp and the 3100 matches with the 2100 power amp.

If you can audition both the 3150 and the 3100, then you can choose which one sounds\works better, I would lean toward the 3100
