NAD 3150 vs. NAD 3155 questions?

Hey there!

So, I had a NAD 3150 for a while that I'd swap in and out of various arrangements for the past couple of years and then sold it when a guy wanted to buy a complete system from me and I have scads of gear to downsize.

So, I'm kicking around the idea of getting another one but I'm curious what the differences are between the 3150 and the 3155, aside from the additional 5 watts per channel. Are the power supplies and whatnot the same? I know the 3155 was the generation that came right after the 3150.

Can anyone with experience in both speak to what you know here please?

Also, since you're here... I've got a 1020 that I love but I'm 1155 curious... can anyone educate me on the difference and strengths/weaknesses of both of those?

The 3150 is far superior to the 3155. The x150 series had dual transformers while all later budget NAD's had single transformer. I also think the x150 series is more transparent that later NAD's...with soft clipping turned off of course.

Much better. IMO, the budget era extended to the 2600/2700 power amp although the 1600/1700 preamp is fairly decent. Things started to get better with the 317, 218, 216, etc. with the introduction of toroidal transformer and extruded heatsinks. Build around the 218 amp with 114 preamp. It is a beast.
 
Not sure if makes a difference to you but I think the 3150 is made in Taiwan and the 3155 made in Japan. I have heard that the made in Japan units are the more desirable units however I am not sure. I have a 7140 that is made in Japan and I like it very much. The 7140 seems to be the same vintage as the 3155 (based on the looks of the faceplate).
 
I guess I'll hold onto my 2155/3155 combo. Plus, while I'm not 100% sure of it's manufacturing origin, my 3140 was pretty kludgy inside. Nothing to brag about. Sound was good though, when it worked...! :)

I’m happy with mine….plenty of power , more Like 100WPC….2 transformers, Like my old Sansui AU 517
