NAD 5425 CD player - display is out

The Past is Alive
Hello,

I have a NAD 5425 CD player that functions fine, but the display just went out.

Does anyone have experience with this problem?

Thanks

Hi there

This is a common issue with early NAD players, there are a couple of bulbs soldered into the PCB that light up the display, they tend to go after so many 1000hrs or so. I've a 5325, that I aquired a few weeks back, I've a feeling that 1 bulb has gone in mine, as the display is dim during daylight, but readable in the dark.

Good news it can be fixed, I'm sure any reputable hifi repairer could fix it, I've heard a lot of people opt for an LED replacement bulb, given the life expectancy they carry. Of course the price of repair also comes into it? Does the player mean that much to you that it warrants the price?

Replacing with LEDs can be as easy as inserting a resistor in series with the LED. It depends if the bulb's source voltage is AC or DC. I switched my burnt out NAD 701 display to LED because it was powered by DC. There are a number of online calculators to help you figure out what size resistor to use.

AC has to be rectified first, which is not hard to do, but adds to the level of difficulty.

Old thread resurrection! The display is out on my NAD 5420. I do not plan to fix it.

However, I would like to know if I get my hands on a remote control, will it work? Does the display not working have an impact on the remote function?
