NAD 7155, what's up?

What is up with the NAD 7155 receiver? I picked one up the other day for less than a tank of gas. Not in the best cosmetic shape but presentable. What I can't believe is the authoitative sound of this "55 watt" receiver! It moves the 15 inchers in my JBL's as well as my Pioneer SX-1250 at 160 watts? I have had a later model NAD's in the past, 370 integrated as I recall, and it had no where near the punch of the 7155. I don't get it, can someone enlighten me please.:dunno:

Yup, IIRC the 7155 is spec'd with an IIHF dynamic power rating of something like 200W. It's my favorite of the receivers that have passed through my place. Well, passed through isn't the right term since it's still here.

It's a very nice piece; one did pass through here - a dump find later given to a colleague at the Polk Forums. Lots of nice features in one fairly aesthetic package.

Thanks guys, this one is a keeper and it sure is a lot easier to fit in my rack than the SX-1250!:scratch2:

Looks very similar to the 7250PE that I picked up today at a yard sale. The owner said that one channel quit working and he got it fixed, and then it broke again and he just put it in the closet and it hasn't been plugged up in fifteen years.

I figured I could use it as a preamp if nothing else, so I bought it and brought it home and tried it out. The controls are scratchy and the radio would only play through one side, but all the inputs worked fine. After playing a few things, I went back to the radio and it played on both channels. I like it.

NAD 7155...without a doubt one of the finest little integrated amps of all time.....Oh hang on... it's a receiver...Oh well.... whats not to like?... Great sound. awesome phono section, power to drive anything, nobody can slag off the tuner, bridgeable amp.....did i say great sound !! And guess what I own two of them..and there's a gooooood reason why. These things will eat the best of them, Sansui's included.

i think i have a 7150. so heavy that i barely can handle it.

as it has 3 transformers inside.

Always on the lookout here for a vintage NAD piece (still looking..sigh) As another poster mentioned "Head room" has it. My HK is similar in that aspect, as it can double its output on peaks under low-ohm loads. First NAD I heard was your model driving a pair of Boston A-150's many years ago..thought the amp/reciever was Much larger than it "Was":music: :thmbsp:

It takes up a whole lot less room and is over 30 lbs. lighter that my Pioneer! I'm thinkin' it's giving the 'old girl' a run for it's money.:scratch2: Never saw that coming!

The 2150/3150/7150 NAD's are my favorite because of the dual transformers. Had a 7155 and a 3155 here and while both sounded very good, the build just wasn't the same.

the layout might be need more attention and wiring looks not that organized.

sound is good, compare to Luxman 120A combo.

AND...you can get a NAD 2155 power amp and run it in bridged mono with the 7155! I did that for a little while and it was a HUGE improvement over the already impressive sound of the 7155. So, just keep your eyes open for a 2155.

Hi
I have the possibility of getting a Nad 7155 surely cheap.

The guy selling it mention that "the tuner side of it gave up some years ago but recently I turned it on to play a CD and though the light shows there is power I got not even a crackle from the speakers.I bought it new in 1987 and it is a wrench to have to replace it".

Is it too much of a risk to buy such a faulty receiver? What I find surprising is that it looks mint cosmetically.
I like the 7155 and have not seeing any for a while.

Thanks. TB

i think i have one here ..its a receiver i know that .. will get round to fixing it up sometime ..its in a right old state . although it works
