I recently acquired this unit. Technically the amp board is the same design as model 3020 with a tuner added. It's got a couple of issues. When I initially plugged it in I heard a gargling sound coming from the transformer and later a thin line of smoke ;-)
I narrowed the problem down to the faulty power switch. When pressed too hard - the gargling sound intensified and the transformer was getting hot. Also sometimes it would stay like this and cause transformer running hot/smoke and sometimes the switch lets go and the transformer works fine.
Now where's my real problem:
I managed to get rid of the problem for now by reflowing the switch solder joints and forcing doxit D5 and D5 "Gold" through small holes in the power switch - but I believe this state of things will not last long.
I would like to disassemble this power switch and clean the residue inside but I am afraid I could do some irreparable damage.
Has anyone tried this way on NAD with success or is it better to look at replacement switch right away? (any modern switches which fit this amp?) Per what I see the build quality of NAD is mediocre and seems like high chance that I will not be able to assemble the switch again ;-)
