NAD CD 5220 Skipping

Register to hide this ad
Open your unit up and look on the laser pickup for a sticker that will have KSS ### on it. Thats the model of the laser you need.

Is the player skipping all of the time, or just on inner/outer tracks? Is it a cyclical skipping?

If "yes" to these questions, it could be the disc motor. ....another common failure beside optics.

If you have A repair shop near you check to see how mutch there bench charge is (price to just have them look at it).If it,s not to pricey they should be able to turn the Lazer down and calibrate it.This may fix it for a year or two,Its not A permanant fix.If it,s too expensive Shitcan it. Sorry dude we live in A disposable world...THX.

Hi

Thanks for replys! I have found the pots on the circuit board and started to play with them. I have tuned it so it almost plays perfect but in the middle of a cd it skips a little. Have spent quite a long time on it but just can't get it right.

be careful turning pots. At the very least, test equipment and tools might be required to get it right and truly diagnose the real problem. And one pot in particular (laser power control) you don't want to turn. If the laser is working and the laser current is turned up, it will soon die. That would be a shame if the laser is not the part at fault.

All pots returned to where they were and unit is skipping again, what test equipment do I need?

I think I will also need a service manual if anyone knows where I can get one?
