NAD PP4/PP3 USB to DAC

I have a NAD M51 dac that I use as a preamp+dac. It's all digital, no analog inputs. It has works well with my setup-up until I started thinking about connecting my fathers old Dual turntable to my system. I do have hundreds of vinyl records since I was a teeneager. My kids also have WII console that does not have HDMI so and I would like to connect to my system (so Just Dance soounds better )

Has anyone connected their NAD PP3 or PP4 directly to and USB input of a dac? Does it work or is it only intended for a computer connection? :

As you already correctly suspect, that wouldn't work, because you'd merely hook two USB peripherals together, but without some kind of computer in between, that would serve as USB host and have the capability of controling/addressing USB Audio Class devices. Or in other words: If you have a phono stage with USB output and a DAC with USB input, you basically just have two somewhat limited (one output only, the other input only) USB sound-interfaces.

Whereas if you had a turntable (or phono stage, provided there is one) with SPDIF-Output like the Denon DP-DJ151 and a DAC with SPDIF input, hooking these together would work no problemo...

Yes, I contacted a NAD sales here in Iceland and they actually tried connecting the PP4 to the M51 without success.

You'll need an ADC, which you can pick up cheaply enough on Amazon.

That's what I use, and it works well.
