NAD T-753 problem

Hello All,
Have a NAD T-753 that went belly up. Prior to it giving up the ghost it was working fine with no hint of any problems. I turned it on and it was working, but there was no display. It was still working fine with no signs of trouble other than the display. I thought I might have done something to have caused the display to disappear. Tried switching inputs and so forth to see if I could get the display back. Turned it off and on (perhaps a couple of times) and then no display or power.
It has been disconnected for a couple of weeks and I decided to plug it in tonight. Stand by/power light come on. No display and the fans do not work.
Seems to be all but dead. Any ideas?
Thanks,

Are you tech minded? Are you willing to pull the top off and have a look-see, especially for fuses?

Hi cademan.
Tech minded? No. Nosey, yes. I did pull off the top and took a look and it looked real interesting, but that's as far as I got. Do the fuses look anything like fuses in a car? Any idea of where they might be located?
Joe

Look like this:

EDIT: pic didn't take well....sorry. It looks like a small glass tube with silver caps on both ends and a small wire running through the inside

It will look like this:

If the wire in the middle is broken, it probably means trouble upstream. Or it got blasted up too loud and blew it.

But with NAD's reliability issues (I've got a POS T-761), I'd guess problems upstream.

Hi Guys,
Thanks. Looks like a car fuse. I do know what they look like and how to tell if they are good. Will open it up again and have another look. Thanks for the help.

Removed the top and found two fuses on a circuit board at the rear of the receiver close to the power cord. Popped them out and they are fine.
Is it time to call in the coroner? :tears::tears:

Wonder why the salesman told me about how great NAD is? :scratch2::scratch2: No offense meant to the NAD aficionados/devotees.

IF you look at sound quality per dollar, they measure quite well. However, their quality/durability is spotty at best.

To have known this a couple of years ago :sigh::tears:. Perhaps a listing on E-bay for parts may be my best option at this point :no:.

NAD makes a great sounding, horribly unreliable AVR. The last couple of years Marantz makes about the best you can buy, and that after about 5 yrs of their making pretty unreliable pieces.

Depending on whether you can stand the sound, Yamaha has maintained about as good a service record as there is in the industry for the entire time they have built AVR's. AVR's are by their nature unreliable due to their complexity, but Yamaha is about as well built as there is.

I use a Yamaha RX-V657 which is still doing duty in the HT after 5 1/2 yrs...knock on wood.

Hi Art,
I bought a Yamaha RX-V1065 to replace the NAD. I had to get a power amp to use my Bose 901's :nono::nono:. So I will use the pre outs of the Yamaha to go to the equalizer then on to the power amp.
I purchased the NAD as a demo (I've done this with almost all of my equipment) and it is the only item that I regret buying.

I'm sure that it has nothing to do with the demo aspect, just that it is an NAD. Good sound for cheap.

Does the amp section still work on the NAD? That is what has happened with my T-761, the pre-amp section constantly drops channels, but the amp section works fine.

I've got my Sony ES receiver as a pre to the amp on the NAD, works pretty good for now.

I didn't mean to say that the fact is was a demo was causing the problem. I meant that I've bought a lot of demo equipment and never had trouble. The point being that demo equipment is good and reliable.
I don't think anything works on this unit. As I said it gave up the ghost very unexpectedly.

One thing to try might be putting a stereo input into the multichannel input and selecting the multi channel with your remote. It should bypass the preamp completely, you might get something out of it, never hurts to try.
