1st question is how does the seller know it needs to be recapped. (Why would something made in 2005 need re-capping?) 2nd question can I hear it in action?
I have a T763 which is one step down from the 773. From what I can find NAD had some design problems with this line of AVR receivers. Early reviews were great. These were heavy, good sounding receivers. But as time went on (from 2005) a lot of these ended up being junked because the parts needed to fix them were more expensive than the unit was worth per the authorized service centers. From what I could tell they would not come out of Protection mode. If you go to HifiEngine.com you will find some literature including 8 technical bulletins. My T763 seems to be a later model in that it was found with the owners manual and an addendum to that manual. And it is a very good sounding piece of equipment. Another question: Do they have the remote. I'm not sure if there aren't some functions that you can only do with the remote. For setup it needs to be hooked up to a TV. It is a Audio Visual Receiver but it lacks a lot of modern features.
If it was working 100% and needed no repairs $100 would be a GREAT price. (Assuming that since its lasted this long...) But still a bit risky. I got mine for free from my son who found it in the basement of a house he had just bought. If you're not feeling lucky I'd stay away.

This is extremely helpful. I really appreciate the lengthy response. There's really not enough information about these receivers on the net yet. The sellers own words about the "not-so-good" to this receiver follow:
"One of the capacitors has degraded such that it generates a "hum" which, although barely audible, does bleed into the audio channels. I was planning to go ahead and test the caps and solder new ones on as needed. I bought it from the original owner a few months ago with the intent to fix it, but I just don't have the freedom to do so right now."

In my opinion there never will be much info available because so few units survived (compared to all the AVR's from Onkyo and Yamaha). With the "hum" I don't think its worth the price, and after hanging around Audiokarma I doubt if his statement about the caps causing the problem is very accurate. There are a lot of ways that a unit like this can generate hum besides capacitors.
