I also posted this message in dollars and sense. I figured I should post it here in case anyone is interested. If someone is really interested and is likely to be a more serious bidder than I am, I am in the Kansas City area, and could help someone out with shipping it, since the seller is asking for local pickup.

That's a first generation Nak 1000, the world's first 3 head cassette deck. It's quite a piece of history. I have a Nak 700 II, the second generation version of it's little brother, and it's an excellent deck.

I'd think a couple of $100 would be reasonable if the deck is in good shape, but do an ebay search of completed auctions and see what you find. You can also check on www.naks.com, and for a few bucks you can get historic sales price info from www.audiogon.com

BTW, that deck sold new for $1000, not the $3800 the seller claims (that price was for the last generation 1000ZXL). In checking historic prices, make sure you're looking at the first generation 1000, not the ZXL
 
You seriously stole that! One of these (in good working and cosmetic shape) sold recently in a shop here in Hong Kong, to a buyer from Singapore, for over $300.

Even though it is an earlier deck, it sounds very good, looks wonderful with that sort of classy vintage "executive" look, and should be worth repairing. It is a collectible "landmark piece" of audio history, and a fine deck in its own right.

Holy Cow! You scored big time.:banana: I've never seen a 1000 go for that little. Where was I when this auction was going down???:boring: The original 1000 came out in the early 70's so will probably require a bit of maintenance but for $9.99 you can't go wrong. AFAIK, the only difference between the 1000 and the later 1000 II is metal tape recording capability. You can still play a metal tape on this one, you just can't record. I've heard the capstan flywheels in these machines weigh more than many entire decks! Let us know how it sounds and what kind of condition it's in when you get it. Enjoy!:music:
 
Wow. I'm here in 2015 looking this deck up as there is one on Kijiji in Toronto Canada for $600. I'm actually considering buying it. I can't believe this guy got one for $10. WOW.
