Hi everyone! I am new here, looking for help with an issue my dad is having with his receiver. I'm not an expert so I hope you'll forgive any mistakes here!
My dad has a Nakamichi AV-500 receiver, which he's had for around 25 years, and it's always worked great apart from some minor things. Lately, he was noticing a crackling sound when adjusting the balance, and that sound was sometimes completely failing to come through one of the speakers, and he decided to clean the contacts with some Deoxit D5.
This all went fine, but when putting everything back together we noticed there were some new problems. The front display of the receiver still works, but the backlighting doesn't work (the display is visible if you shine a flashlight on it); the remote isn't working to adjust the volume though it works otherwise; and there isn't any sound coming through. The fuses look okay and so do the connections, but neither of us are experts, and the owner's manual doesn't have any information. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Any advice would be appreciated!
