Nakamichi CA7A-II Volume Control Potentiometer Access

Forgive a noob, everyone, and the search function is still broken...

My Nak CA7A-II preamp has been acting up a bit:

1) Switching inputs produces a quick crackle.

OR, more commonly,

2) Adjusting volume (with remote or by hand) OR touching it produces the same crackle.

I have not reliably reproduced the problem, but have noticed it more when listening at slightly louder volumes.

SO, I was thinking I'd at least try to clean the volume pot. I am a dummy and attempted to read the schematic to see if a) I needed to remove the face plate, and, if so, b) how I should go about doing that.

Attendant image below. I am wondering if I do indeed have to remove the bottom and top plates in order to remove the face plates? Someone wiser than I might also advise that I don't have to remove anything in order to fit the nozzle attachment to get at the pot?

Cheers, all.

I believe the answer is 'yes'. BTW, clean the balance pot; they are usually the first thing to go south on these pre-amps. Keep in mind that they are 30+ years old now.

Cheers, UncleAng! I have noticed the balance pot starting to act up. But before that, I have another issue in another thread that may or may not be component related that I need to figure out first.
