Hi guys i have 2 Nak dragons I found years ago thrown away, they were missing screws but did play and seemed to work alright until recently when both started chewing tapes or stopping mid play, I assumed it was a belt issue. Having worked on many tape decks including my CR7 I was confident I could manage a belt replacement on these but unfortunately it's all gone wrong.
First deck, power up, wait a few seconds and without touching anything it just goes in to FFW, pressing any other transport button makes it stop whilst the button is pressed but it does nothing else.
Second deck i've not touched the transport yet, however I did initially test out the rebuilt transport from the first deck and it worked fine, but I realised i'd forgotten to change the idler wheel, so pulled it apart again swapped the wheel and now it will play for a second then stop with both transports, sometimes it randomly cycles itself to rw from play for a second then stops.
So both decks exhibit the same issues no matter whether it's the rebuilt transport or the untouched one.
I'm going crazy trying to understand what on earth i've done wrong here. I ensured the cam gear was correctly meshed with the potentiometer, the capstans spin fine, lubricated everything correctly. Nightmare scenario is somehow i've fried a logic chip on both decks, but I can't comprehend how?
