Nakamichi Dragon - going price?

I ahve an opportunity to get a local Nak Dragon from a guy I know and trust.
I can likely have the deck fro about $650.

Includes owners manual, promotional brochure, Nakamichi DM-10 Head Demagnetizer, Sound of Nakamichi Reference Cassette, Cassette-to-Remote cable.

What say you?

Seems like a fair price. I paid around $500 for mine a few years back. I have seen them going for over $1000 at times.
 
One of these came up at the local GW auction about 6 months ago. It went for $300, but who knows if it worked or not?!?
 
I would consider that price if I knew that the deck had occasional use over the years. Rubber parts do not like to sit idle.

On the other hand, I would hesitate if the seller said he used the deck 'all the time' and his/her cassette collection backed it up.

A few years back I just missed out on a local dragon for the same price. Now I'm thinking it was a good miss considering how very little my cassette collection gets used. I have a pretty nice 3 head kenny deck but it can't make those cassettes into something that they're not. I've often wonder if a dragon can do that.......or not.
 
There was a Dragon for sale on the local CL late last night, but when I saw and called on it this morning, it had already been sold...for...$100.

Ya, as others have said, $1000 is not uncommon for a good quality deck. If it has been serviced that could be good. But don't be surprised if you have to have a little more done to it. I know a lot of times Dragons can be finicky and need someone with experience to dial them in. But it sounds like you'll get a good deal on it!
 
Congrats to you. I hope it meets your expectations after that 30 year wait. Funny I was listening to a few cassettes today for the first time in probably over a year.
 
You found a Dragon at GW? Good god. Here in the Midwest, there is nothing at GW ever.

I personally admire those decks but don't want one. They just sound like too much trouble compared to lower end Naks.
