Just took a second look. I was off. Actually closer to 8 3/4. 8.668 to be exact. I missed that last 15mm.

I had to modify both tables I mounted these on to get the full 15mm overhang. I suppose there are longer headshells that would work.
What's going on 4ever? Have you got one of these arms, or is one available that you're considering?

Found a Technics SP-25 for sale locally with one of these mounted. So used to seeing those with the Audio Technica ... had no idea what I was looking at. I was wondering if it was anything special. Overall a pretty decent package from what I can tell. Deck looks spotless. Looks like the anti-skate weight is missing but no big deal. I'm a machinist ... I can bang one out in no time ;)

I don't believe this arm ever had anti-skate, but IMO you'd improve it by cooking one up.

That table (I know the one you're looking at) is really kind of tatty for the price. Also, keep in mind that several of the semiconductors used in this machine are virtually unobtainable except as counterfeits from China.Anything goes wrong and you have an expensive doorstopper:)

Eh? I believe the SP-25 is basically an SL-1200mk2 underneath. No?

Not saying it's not tatty or overpriced though. I just personally haven't heard much about Technics tables becoming doorstoppers due to ICs. Mostly I've heard of that with the big Denon/JVC decks, maybe the GT2000 or other Exotica.

Yes,it is essentially a 1200.Your point?

I have not only personally ''heard'' about this issue,I have had to actually deal with it as a tech on many occasions. The simple fact of the matter is that if these devices did not fail regularly, there would be no market for replacements. Therefore, there should be plenty of OEM replacments available,no?As there are virtually no (REAL!) OEM's available (gee,I wonder where they all went??) the Chinese wouldn't have taken to knocking them off in such vast quantities.Seems like there must be a market for these.See where I'm going with this?

Frankly,I'm really getting tired of the constant nitpicking in the forums.

The OP is free to do as he wishes,my only intention was to inform him of the facts as I have directly witnessed them.

Good day,

Art

My only point was that the 1200 and it's derivatives have proven to be one of the most reliable series of tables ever made... If you're going to go down the "unobtanium IC" rabbit hole you might as well swear off vintage... You win some you lose some.

My comment wasn't meant to insult, only to further discussion. Not sure what nerve it touched but my apologies if it came off as flippant.

Cheers
Nathan

If you say so

Isn't that what that little outrigger on the left is for? The manual calls it the "bias" adjustment. I do believe that's another term for anti-skate. I hope :dunno:. BUT ... as you say ... if that weren't the case ... pretty sure I could fab up a little something ;).

As best I understood it, the little outrigger arm can be adjusted into or away from the main weight for antiskate, and the the little weight on the outrigger is a VTF "fine tuning" weight. Don't claim that's true and correct, but it works for me.
