Nano Tubes?

"What if we could make the vacuum tube in a way that made it possible to produce billions of them very cheaply?"

How vacuum tube technology is being deployed at the nanoscale

Vacuum tubes were used in the early manufacturing processes for integrated circuits and memory chips. This process would use silicon components in the manufacture of nano scale tubes ...

What's that sound? The circle closing once again ... or as the Intruders would say, "What goes around, comes around" ...

Think of the space it would save Jay

I could trade my crawl space for a shoe box.

I have a bunch of those little tiny tubes with just wires sticking out of them. Seems like way2wise was doing some CDP output stages with those awhile back. Maybe he will chime in on these.

"way2wise"... :scratch2: Dont know about that... Plenty of stuff I don't know, been trying to make sense of some firmware hacking of wireless routers. Total newb there...

Anyway, http://pw2.netcom.com/~wa2ise/radios/tubedac.htm

And the way today's electronics are "toss when it breaks, don't bother trying to get it fixed", if transistors never happened, we'd probably have soldered in long life tubes. Sockets introduce a possible failure point (bad connections) you could avoid with soldered wire connections. Octal tubes had wires inside their sockets, those wires could have been wired to terminal strips (assuming you did something to mount the tube to the chassis).
