Hello AudioKarma, after lurking for a while I am back and will hopefully remain active as I am now acquiring more gear to build up my system.
I am looking for a TT and have a decent budget, I have narrowed my TT search to an Ariston RD11s, a Thorens TD 125, Thorens TD 160 and possibly a Yamaha YP-800.
My question is about the YP-800, what is it worth and how does it sound? Google searches yield an okay amount of results but it seems either no one has heard it or the very few that have, love it. Also, it seems to be hard to find like the YP-D8 and YP-D71 which are both the tables I wish were inside of my budget. It has also been compared to the YP-D8 and YP-D71 by a few people on forums saying it is VERY CLOSE to those in terms of performance and specs. I found one with a Grace G-707 tonearm and an unspecified Grado cart with a brand new, but also unspecified, stylus included on fleabay. It is, however, at the top of my budget for a TT and I am not sure if it is worth it even with the G-707 (which appears to be a very nice and highly regarded tonearm) because of the lack of user reviews to be found.
If the YP-800 is not worth it then I have settled on either one of the Thorens or the Ariston, however I do really want a Yamaha TT for myself. Any info regarding the YP-800 is greatly appreciated.
The attached link is a picture of the YP-800 with the Grace G-707 attached. Looks to be about a 6-7/10 on the exterior.
