Nature creeps in. Coyote sighting.

I live in an upstairs end unit condo. They are set back in the woods from a super busy 4 lane state hwy (Roswell Rd. in Sandy Springs, pretty high density.) Church next door, high end subdivision behind me, Woods all in between with a winding connection to the Chattahoochee.
Deer are commonplace, coons occasional, possums nightly. Just now went out on the porch to have a smoke. Zoned out, I feel something looking and I look down, here's a coyote 10 ft. from my downstairs neighbor's back door. He sees me see him and splits.
Guess the (several) neighbor's cats are not long for this world.

You might tell them what you saw so they can keep their cats inside if they aren't aware of the coyotes. I get them by my house, too. raccoons, possums, and deer are all common nightly. But I see the coyotes every now and again, too.

Yes, I will tell them...unfortunately, a couple of the cats just go from house to house and mainly live outside.

I'm in mid MD & we have some too. I saw a dead one in a guys pickup a few winters back & I was shocked how big it was compared to the critters I've seen out West! I'm
on the edge of the developed area around me, I know I've heard them at night.

We've had a developing problem with them in Front Range Colorado this past summer. A dad was walking with his little kid and a coyote jumped out and bit the kid on the butt. Not the only incident, either...and this is in a relatively densely developed area.

I live 10 miles from Washington, DC and we have them in the neighborhood. The animal control knows about them but haven't done anything. They seem to have adapted to their surroundings as well as the foxes and racoons.

Yeah, coyotes are very good at adapting. If there are coyotes in the neighborhood one should keep their pets under supervision because coyotes will do what coyotes do and one of those things is eat what they can get.

I see coyotes every night here. We have a Large Lobo or "loner" that cruises the neighborhood in the early mornings and likes too sit in my front yard and survey. Living on the Cul-de-Sac with the park at the end he has a good view of the area. Suzie and I and Ruger have run into some small ones up close and personal coming out of the bushes. Ruger barks at them and I yell and run at them and they run off. But Don`t ever confront a Lobo or one out during the day, those are Trouble.

Most of the coyotes around here are on the small scraggly side. I'm more concerned about the mountain lions that pop up on occasion along the surrounding foothills or when they follow the creek beds down into town.

About 20 years ago when I was living in Fairfax City I followed one down the middle of my street in my car. He turned off and cut right through my yard without ever looking back. I think a nearby old and overgrown railroad embankment provided a secure route for him into and out of the neighborhood.

I hadn't seen another one until this year - on a trail out here by the Battlefield (Bull Run). It was an interesting experience locking eyes with her. Definitely an intelligent critter - she certainly sized me up before ducking back into the cedars. I've always known they were around - it's just surprising that they're hardly ever seen or heard.

Since we are talking Coyote

A while back out walking the bush in south eastern Arizona I snatched up a couple of coyote pups from a den sight and brought them home ( just a 1/4 mile from my home.) It was a bad move on my part, had this idea of raising them like dogs, after a few hours of thinking it over I took them back to their den hoping they would mix back with the other pups and de-human scent by being with the others and be o.k. They were cute!

I have Coyotes come around my property constantly.
I know they're around for sure, when my Dogs start going nuts!!
