Need a new cartridge....and a headshell

I just bought the Technics 1600 MKII (see previous thread...it was a long and drawn out process :) ) and I need a cartridge and headshell.

What are the recommendations on where to get a headshell?

And, what are the recs for a good, reliable cartridge? Mostly classic rock, jazz, etc....I was looking at the SHURE M97 xE.

I'm lost if the table was in Mint condition why would you need a headshell? As to cartridges you may have to buy and try. What i mean is to me cartridges are system dependent so what i or someone else my say is great on our systems may not sound all that good on yours. But I don't think you'd go wrong with either an AT120E or AT110E.
You may even want to look into say a Grado Red or Green. The Shure is nice but owning a vast amount of cartridges I'd choice a lot of others in my collection over the Shure. Not saying it's bad just that i['ve been buying new and used cartridges for the last 4 years so I've tried many and the M97XE is one of those.
 
I'd back up Stanton681eeees (sorry if I got that wrong) suggestion for the AT carts. Both are excellent for the money - I'm listening to the 120 now. Headshells are available widely. Pics would be good to when you get the table!

I have the AT120 on my SL 1700 and have been pleased. It was my first TT in many many years so I have no frame of reference yet but I feel it's quite good for the money. The headshell can be gotten on line. Im using a Tonar which is similar to the Technics headshell -- not sure about the weight.
 
Thanks...my system is on the warm side...McIntosh Amp, Rotel CD, JBL L166 Horizons. I was a big fan of AT cartridges in the 80's.

I just wanted to have an extra headshell (or two) with various cartridges for different tones.
 
Authentic Technics headshells can be purchased (kabusa.com, for example), but are expensive. You can use any DJ headshell (Gemini, Numark, Vestax, American Audio) or the Stanton H4-S which is sold at Guitar Center for $10.
