hope this is the right place, if not, sorry.
Happened to be by Radio Shack today so went in to get a couple of things, browsing around they had a pretty decent multimeter on sale. Was normally 89.99 and was on sale for 39.99.
Now it is not the best one in the world, but for $40.00 it is pretty slick. Even has a temp mode and came with the temperature probe.
Pretty much anything you will need in a meter for $40.00. Normally that is the price of just the basic ones, so I grabbed one anyway as my old one was just a cheapo I have been using.
Just thought it was a pretty decent deal and I have seen a few posts about getting meters - thought a decent deal if u are in the market for one.

RS often has some good deals on tekky kinda things. Nuttin wrong with gettin a good dmm with extra do-dads at a good price. I'm all for it. Having a temp probe can help find hot components. And take your temp if you're sik. HAHA

You can pick up all kinds of neat stuff on sale at Radio Shack. It's a shame they don't advertise their sales a little better like they used to. Maybe they figured out that's the only time I go there.
I always hated them wanting to know my name and address for any kind of sale. When I tell the sales clerk nunya they act like it's personal. Do they get a spiff or something for getting a customers addresss?

My life depends on my meters. I don't loan them and I don't abuse them. Fluke is probably the best known brand, but I am comfortable with some of the oldies. Beckman, Simpson and Triplett. Not nay saying but when I ride my bike I don't use a cheap helmet. When I'm dealing with electricity I get one I can trust and develop a relationship with it. I have more than the usual amount of meters. I have a fluke 289 on order. It has an interesting min max avg function that shows them all at the same time. Looks great for power supplies.

Just saying, when all is done, be careful. It takes an unusual combination to kill yourself with 120, but it can be done. Check your meter, whatever the brand, before each use.

It's just corporate policy. Saying "none of your business" seems a little harsh, no? :)

I usually just give them my other address depending on what state I'm in. If I'm in VA, I give my folks' place in NC, when I'm in NC, my apartment in VA :D Of course, that karma might bite me in the ass, I may be working at a RatShack over the summer while I look for a job in DC...

So uh.. what? are you saying I shouldnt us this old Gal when working on my house panel???

But to be honest.. I might be confident in these, as they are impressively consistent... (but Its a cheap yellow digital Radio Shack multi in the toolbox)

Picked up a multimeter from RS on sale for similar price... am pleased so far. Has been working great. I have a Fluke 73 as well but wanted something that could measure capacitance.

been using it today , mainly playing around as I finish up the Spec 2 - actually seems like a pretty decent meter - I am very happy.
I did look online for it but it was not listed so it may be a closeout deal.
Heck of a deal for $40.00

i was actually surprised at how inaccurate some of the cheaper meters are. fluke seems quite accurate and dependable. i got two of 'em from CL for $35 and $25. both said to have problems with display, but after a quick deoxit swap on the key pad contacts, good as new.

Actually, I've found the opposite to be true.

I've been an electronic tech for over 35 years and to me, Fluke is the meter of choice.

However, I bought a Sears DMM about 15 years ago and just to have something with me in the car, I recently bought a $4 Harbor Freight special. Both of these meters were very accurate when I checked them at work with the calibrators. I was pleasantly surprised!

Cheap DMMs don't have to be inaccurate, but they don't necessarily always come accurate. Fluke and Keithley are my favorites in DMMs, and have been consistently accurate in my experience.
