Need a quick reply - Pioneer RT 1020L vs. Akai GX-630D

Go for it!

"Think long...think wrong!"

Don't take too much time thinking about this deal.

From the pictures they do appear to be well taken care of and heads (from what I can tell) also appear to be in pretty good condition.
I'd go for it. As a matter of fact I'd take both of them! You've come across a good deal there. Currently there is one here on the local CL that is a RT-701 and the individual wants $250 firm! He replaced the meter lamps with blue LED's and says that the "Counter Belt" needs to be replace.
From the pictures that you posted, it's a good deal indeed!

Good Luck! :D

Buy the 630. It sounds better, I've heard them all and I own a 1020, first, I like the 1020 over the 707, for usefulness and sound. Second, the akais kill it and the 707 in one fatal swoop. I now have a 747 and it decimates the competition in my living room. So you won't hear me say pioneer over akai UNLESS, it's the 2044. Drool.

The RT-707 is direct drive, but it's single capstan machine. The 909 is dual capstan. My two cents (I own multiples of every Pioneer RT since 1973) is get the RT-1020. The 10xx series is vastly undervalued in the marketplace. It has quad playback ability (the 707 doesn't) and the specs are darn close. Unless you've got the change to buy both.....

IIRC, the 707 is a direct drive dual capstan design, so if this is correct, no belts means less issues.[/QUOTE]
