Need advice please. The advent loudspeaker 1969

Hey again everybody! I have the opportunity to go pick up a pair of original owner The Advent Loudspeaker 1969 designed by Henry kloss, speakers in great condition and I have no idea what to offer the guy. I've spent half the morning researching and my head hurts now hahaha. I know nothing about advent and I don't want to insult him or anything, but I also don't want to pay too much. Still has the original bill of sale and manual too. Any help at all would be much appreciated. Thank you!

If they are all original, they will probably need a refoam of the woofers at the very least. I'd also suggest recapping the crossovers and replacing the resistors associated with the tweeter level switch. If they are in pristine shape otherwise and all drivers are working, I'd probably offer $100 and see what he says. I'd pay a little more than that if they're something you think you'll want to hold onto and enjoy for a while.

Thank you! I'm not sure I'll ever find anything I can afford that I like better than my dynaco a25's, but I read so much about vintage advent and I've never had the opportunity to hear any, so I'm seriously considering making an offer just to try them out. Honestly the woofers just look too clean and new to me and I'm worried that they were replaced with something less palatable

If they were replaced, they could be proper Advent replacements, or not. Or they could be refoamed originals.

Well couldn't get a time worked out for the advents yet and fell into a mint pair of dcm kx12 series ii, a pair of flawless polk audio power port bookshelves, and a pair of Emerson crap speakers that I'm dropping at goodwill in the morning, all for 35 bucks. Still trying for the advent later in the week though. Hopefully get to try out the dcm's tomorrow

Fried egg tweeter and masonite outer ring on woofers are dead giveaways to see if original. The Walnut cabs are more desirable than the utility cabs and will command a higher resale.

Unfortunately the pics only show everything but the tweeters, cabs look nice, the backs look nice and say the advent loudspeaker designed by Henry kloss 1969 and pics of the woofers and that's it

Been trying to do that and honestly they all look a little different anyway :-(
The Classic Speaker pages have discriptions and pics. Like Grillebilly says. Of course, make sure the drivers of both speakers look alike. If they sound good with all drivers working. If the foam woofer surrounds need replacing, would cost about $25-$30. Can DIY in 5 hours over couple days.

First, I'm not an Advent expert. But those look like later woofers, alike ones on my 1981 versions. Ive been told there were a few running changes of design as they were made. They might be all original or the woofers could have been replaced with later all steel frame. Foam surround looks in good shape. How much are they worth? Wide range around here. $125 to $250 guessing in visually nice condition.
Make sure tweeter is working in all three tweeter switch positions. If not in just some positions, can be fixed easily.

This is what my 81 version, now refered to as thr New Large Advent looks. Your pics dont show the tweeters but I'm guessing they are earlier different version. Woofer looks same.

I originally talked him down low enough to justify just buying them as long as I can verify that they are at least advent woofers. It turns out he inherited them from the original owner and kind of just wants them gone. Wasn't trying to be greedy, just thought the woofers didn't look original

I like them. I actually run them with a set on Advent Model Ones above, inverted. Ones have same drivers in smaller cabinet. Four even better, if amp can handle four ohm loads.
Heard some peoople prefer AR2ax or Dynaco A25 over Advents. I can't compare.IMG_20170407_214442.jpg
