need advice sx 950 new owner

hello from the ozarks. just got an sx 950 off craigs list. receiver is clean and everything works driving a set of old computer speakers. any advice as to cleaning checking etc before i hook the good speakers up? any advice, any is appreciated. thanks in advance, rick

You can clean the pots and look inside for any burned/leaking caps or parts, otherwise you should be good to go. You can adjust the dc offset and bias if you know how. That's about it.
 
Get a copy of the Service Manual. If you have no electronics experience, this will come in handy when you take it apart to clean the pots and switches.

Read the STICKY THREAD in the General AUDIO Forum called De-Oxit for Dummies Revisited. Then apply it specifically to your gear.

Go to Harbor Freight and get a Digital Multimeter. You will eventually need one. Learn how to use it. You'll need it to check voltages in the amp per the service manual as part of a preventive maintenance program, BEFORE you hook up the Good Stuff.

Get it cleaned up, outside and inside, with whatever you feel comfortable using.
