Need antenna advice

I just bought a HH Scott 330C and need some antenna advice.

The previous owner of our house used DISH but we don't so I have the DISH cable going from the roof through my listening room. Can I use that cable to connect to the antenna?

If so, what's the best antenna?

yes - use the wire - probably coax - get an adapter. for an antenna if the stations transmitters are not too far away - try an omni like the HD-6010

The 330 series is noted for a fair FM side and an excellent AM side. Does your 330C still have the ferrite rod?

I don't know RMP. The seller is shipping it tomorrow. Where do I find the ferrite rod?

The ferrite rod is the 6 or 7 inch rod attached to the top rear of the chassis. Usually it is broken off and missing. If present, it is connected to the AM antenna terminal. It should be by-passed if using another AM antenna. An outdoor antenna would maximize the potential of the AM section.

Thank RMP. I thought that's what it might be. Some time ago I bought a 330C off Ebay and it was destroyed in shipping.

Back then I found a site that showed the antenna location of all antennas in Albuquerque. I can't find that site. Any suggestions?

I'm working on the antenna today and have a few questions. My listening room is the third stall of a three car garage that is all walled off and insulated. above it is a flat roof were the DISH use to sit and the coax is still there and comes right into my room.

When I stand on the roof I can look across the Albuquerque valley and see the mountains where all the broadcast antennas are located.

On the roof there is a 18" wall around the perimeter. Can I mount the antenna behind that wall so the neighbors can see it or does it have to be up in the air.

If you put it away from the edge of the rooftop bit slightly higher than the 18” wall, you could get clear line of sight while the neighbors would have difficulty seeing the antenna.

Yep, I went up on the roof and it will be invisible to the neighbors and above the little wall.

Does the pipe I mount it to have to be metal. I have a PVC pipe that is the right size.

if it is metal mounted to a metal vent pipe that might give you some grounding. is the dish mounted to metal pipe sticking out of the roof like from a bath or kitchen? take off the dish and put your antenna in its place or but a metal mast extender above the dish.https://www.amazon.com/CHANNEL-MASTER-Antenna-Steel-CM-1805/dp/B000SONAJ6

Does the antenna have to be grounded to work or is it protection for the tuner and lightning?

The antenna will work without grounding, but you may experience more noise.

Edit: Grounding the cable with a ground block may lessen noise. I don't think grounding the mast will affect noise.

Both the antenna mast and lead in are supposed to be bonded to the main grounding electrode system of the premises per NEC. In that regard a point of safety, not performance.

Ok, I'm good. The DISH had a ground wire going to the underground electrical pipe. I get both the reciever and antenna Wednesday.

Had a ground wire? So not anymore? To be honest... You could trust that it is a good install that someone unknown did, but could be better of checking and making sure it still is a good install...

Better tobe safe then sorry when It comes to Outside antenna.

Nice your setting it up properly...You will be pleased with the results!
