Sorry bout that post, the software was not behaving. Wait, it was behaving, but badly. Seems OK now.

Anyway, back to the OP. You'll get nowhere varying frequency, what you have to vary is phase. First you have to make a pleasing sound. Find some acidhead keyboardist or something who has some decent effects on his keyboard or electric piano. (to be safe, pay him in cash but get a receipt) Have him play some progressions, and in fact even let you do a few, try it, WTF.

Then you need to talk to someone at a music store. Not me, unless the particular happenstance that you be in Ohio at least, the odds of this, just find someone local. I can probably find someone, and there is no affiliation in case anyone wonders, but I think I can express the need properly and you MIGHT just wind up with a guitar effects box. Just a certain kind. Not grunge, not, umm, the other setting on those things. There are many types of boxes and some of them command some good damn money.

For phase shift you need a circuit with a BBD. You CAN do it with a DSP but you do not have the control that I am sure you will want if you do this. A custom circuit with parallel BBDs, I forgot the damn number but they use them in guitar amps all over the place and the quality is good. But they never go backwards with the phase and I think you want that ability because the body should strive to be symmetrical.

And with that, a little boomp boomp to get a rhythm. Get a cheaper artificial drum set (you do NOT want to pay for one of the really good ones) and we somehow have to interface and maybe control the tempo of that thing. Like that $%&^@ exercise video(s).

Also, you might want to explore biofeedback. I experimented with this a bit myself and it is fascinating. At the moment, though not in perfect health I do not need to connect up electrodes. In general I consider that a good thing. that is a problem - that is an industry that is so totally regulated, unless you own your own practice you could be fired for even trying to attach electrodes to people. If you wanted to go this far, you would have to get them to want to attach themself, and that still might not be so good. And, ANYTHING that attaches to the patient needs to be totally wireless. that is unless you want to go through a totally arduous process of safety certification like for the UL, but like twenty times worse.

Might be easier to just get a job as the President's personal bodyguard after all the **** they put you though.

Bottom line is you will need headphones and receivers. Also, if you want to use lower frequencies, it is easier. No subwoofers, no nuthin. Just have it playing, at a very low level so you can still talk while they have the headphones on, and talk to them. See what they think about your "music".

There is alot to this Man, especially the material that goes in those headphones or speakers. Just tones from an oscillator are not going to do any good.
 
And be VERY careful with this. VERY careful, you could lose your job and maybe even certification if anything even think of going wrong. And even if it doesn't. If this is not authorized by the people you work for you can lose your livelyhood. Them people can be really anal.

Even if you own the business, it can be just as bad, actually worse.

Think about it.
 
OP is just asking how to set up some gear to get tones through speakers. I'm no expert but I have heard of this - recently in fact - and as far as I know, regulatorily it is no different from playing music.
 
I think when it is all said and done it will be music. No function generator and all that is going to do what he wants, it will be a bit more complicated than that.

Just my opinion.
 
Mechanically this is not a very difficult project today. Here is a suggestion for you about a system. Sherwood has come out with a Bluetooth capable receiver ( RX-4508) rated at 100 watts per channel at 8 ohms. A pair of wall mounted ,small but good response speakers ,like Polk makes. The source could be an iPad,iPhone,or any device using Bluetooth.

You can use a cloud storage system to move the sound files to the iPad from your computer and control the playback from the iPad. The sounds will be your choice. I like to make digital recordings of natural sounds, for example. One of my favorites is an hour long recording of wind whistling in my garage during a winter gale! Extremely relaxing.
