Need blank digital audio CD recommendations from Philips CDR 765 owners

I've got an older Olympus very similar to it. I use it for recording lectures; works great.

+1. You'd be hard pressed to beat this.

Only option cheaper than this would be to use a smartphone to record the sermons.

I tried the gold Maxell 32X CDRs and no luck - got the NO OPC message with them too.

It appears as though the 32x are 80min and my Maxell Music CDRs from Kmart are 74 min. These are different discs.

Hmm, I did not see 74min ones on the shelf when I was there. Even looking at their web site, it only shows 80min. Could be that stores in different geographical locations can carry different merchandise.

Well, I was able to find a supply of the older Sony digital audio CD-Rs discs on ebay - almost 150 of them. We only use one CD-R disc a week at the church, so I am good to go for a while, hopefully long enough for us to plan out the replacement for the Philips.

I was able to find a work-around for my problem, though I am not sure how reliable it will be with all of the CD-R brands. While the recorder does recognize newer CD-R discs as recordable, the discs fail the OPC test. What I can do, however, is this:

• insert a blank audio CD-R disc that will pass the OPC test
• let the unit perform the OPC test
• after the OPC test completes successfully, manually (and carefully) open the CD tray and swap in one of the blank CD-R discs that fails the OPC test and manually close the tray

With this trick the unit successfully records onto the newer discs. I tested this with a few discs and it works with the newer Sony audio CD-R discs (the silver ones). I still need to test it with the other brands of audio CD-R discs that did not pass the OPC test: Verbatim, Phillips (how ironic - the new Philips audio CD-R discs don't even work with their older recorder) and WTSmedia 12X audio discs.

The Sony discs that do work are the metallic-colored discs: yellow, green, teal/lighter blue, medium blue, light purple, medium purple.

I hope that others that may be having this issue will find the above info helpful.

Honestly... Mistui gold discs. There is simply no better write-able media.

And Mitsui/MAM-A/MAM-E Gold Discs are NOT Music CD-R media, which means they don't record on a Philips consumer standalone CD-R recorder.

'Billy Bob's Pro Blanks'. Billy Bob sells 'em at the 'Food, Fuel, and Deer Bait' on I-94. He absolutely swears by these CD-R's (when he's sober).

I have a feeling that ol' Billy Bob swears quite a bit whether sober or not.
