Need help B&W speaker short?

Lossless

Super Member
I have a set of beloved 1995 year B&W DM640i with 6.5” yellow Kevlar midrange 4 ohm. When the speakers were playing, the midrange frequencies were phenomenal. Recently one of the midrange speakers stopped playing. The speaker plays if I depress the cone in about an 1/8” of an inch. I’m getting 3.6 ohms with cone pressed or not pressed in. That rules out a coil short. The spider wires are also in good condition along with the connecting terminals. No short in those wires anywhere. Could it be the magnet somehow got displaced and speaker coil isn’t close enough to magnet activate motor? It has me stumped. My next move may be to replace entire driver at a cost of $200 used. Ouch! Any advice welcomed.
