Need help changing needle/cartridge

Hi, newbie here. I’ve a sansui p-900 and very recently bought a replacement needle for it. It’s a t4p AT - I can’t exactly remember the model, but when I replaced the needle and started playing records a lot of them were skipping/repeating. Tried the same record on the earlier needle and it was fine. What seems to be the problem?

By the way, the cartridge attached to the tone arm had been replaced, probably by my grandfather who passed away 4 years ago. It hasn’t been used in that long and I wasn’t certain if the needle needed replacing or not, which was why I bought a new one.

I also think that the older needle works fine because it’s neither skipping nor repeating and the sound isn’t really bad/distorted.

It's a pmount, so you shouldn't need to adjust anything really.

Maybe the new stylus isn't seated correctly? If the old one sounds fine, it might be. The new one also may have just picked up a piece of dust on the first play, dust seems to love the lead in grooves. Bad new stylus are uncommon, but not unheard of.

yes I feel like it’s a bad new stylus. But i guess, seeing that needle’s probably fine there’s no need for a replacement?

Compare the new to old side by side, if an obvious difference return new one. If not, try to reinstall new stylus. Usually AT stylus pop right into place but a few have to be teased into place. This is easier to do with the cartridge removed. There is one screw holding it on. It will pull straight out after removing screw.
