Need help finding a specific screw size...

Uhhhh....
I'm trying to hang my flat panel TV (it's an Emerson LF320EM4 32"). I bought a Monoprice ultra-slim wall bracket a few months ago and I'm just now getting around to installing it due to other, more important projects.

Anyway, after installing the back plate on two studs I went to screw the rails to my TV. The smallest screws provided are M5x14mm machine screws that were too big. I tried using some #8 machine screws, but they were too large also. #6 screws are too small- they go in loose, and they don't feel secure.

I have already checked the manual for the TV and it has absolutely no info on wall mounting, except for saying that it can be mounted (BUT HOW???).

I'm not sure how M5, M6, etc screws are sized (is M5 bigger or smaller than M6?). Anyway, I hope to get the right screws from Home Depot next time I go shopping. Any help is appreciated!

Orchard Supply will probably have a better selection of screws. M6 is bigger than M5. They make a 4.5, by the way.

Thank you, that helps a lot. I'm used to #10, #8, etc.

I'm not sure exactly how much smaller they need to be. I'll see if I can buy some sort of mutli-pack that has several different sizes.
 
Metric screw sizes are actually fairly sensible. M5 is a 5mm screw. M6 is a 6mm, etc. Much easier to convert those to a size than using standard numbered machine screws.

Try and auto parts store if HD doesn't have what you're after. Most have a rack of machine screws in various sizes.
 
The Emerson site says the Emerson lf320em4 uses a VESA Mount 200 x 100 and THAT uses an M4 screw with a screw hole depth of 7.4mm - so figure in the thickness of the bracket for the length plus 5mm leaving 2.4mm of the hole depth so the screw doesn't bottom out and end up loose.


remember he said 5mm was too big.
 
Metric bolts have a different thread and pitch (coarse and fine). I found out the hard way while doing come chrome bolts for my 66 Chevy II. I bought the identical from 2 different place and realized the slight difference. Just maybe.....
 
Okay, so I got the TV mounted a few days ago, but I waited until my room was pretty much done to take a pic...
