I rescued a clean Sanyo TP-1012 from a local thrift. Before you laugh at the Sanyo name, this thing is actually a pretty nice if basic table. In terms of design and build, it reminds me a lot of my old SL-D2, except that the Sanyo table actually has *more* torque underneath the platter. Slapped an el cheapo AT CN5625AL on the arm just to test, and the combo actually sounds very nice.
When I picked it up, the table would run the platter whenever plugged in and wouldn't hold speed. A little Deoxit in the speed pots cleared up the latter problem immediately, it's holding speed rock solid now. I also made a (possible?!) adjustment to the plastic lever that pulled back against the power cutoff switch; there's a little extruded piece of plastic that is supposed to slide against the cutoff toggle switch when the arm lands on the rest.
My "adjustment" was to turn a screw on top of this little plastic nubbin. It improved matters somewhat; the table turns off when it is supposed to about half the time now. Sometimes I can get it to turn off if hit the reject switch and "re-cycle" the arm. Other times, I can get it to turn off if I push gently down and to the right on the tonearm while it's at rest. In both cases the table will sometimes turn itself back on anyway-- perhaps after a second, perhaps after an hour.
The screw feels like it has bottomed out after my adjustment, so I cannot continue to turn it, and frankly I'm not even sure I adjusted the right thing.
The table always turns *on* correctly when the arm is moved over to the record, and I am pretty sure this is controlled by the same little nubbin, so I'm kind of at a loss as to what is going on mechanically.
I can't find a service manual for this thing and I also cannot see any other obvious switches inside the case. Any further suggestions?
