Need Help Identifying the Value of my Father's Vintage Fisher Radios

Hello to all on Audio Karma!

I'm Natalie Gadeikis, the daughter of John Gadeikis, who was previously an active member on this forum. He was a fanatical Fisher Radio collector, and has a total of 7 Fisher products. John passed away earlier this month, and in a previous conversation I had with him months before his passing, he informed me that his Fisher Radios were of some value, and told me not to simply give them away or throw them in the trash.

Because I am not knowledgable on anything that is Fisher related, I decided that the best place to learn about these radios was to come onto Audio Karma, since I remembered him being active on this website during my adolescence. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could give me advice/information on his radios, how much they might be worth, and where would be the best place to possibly sell them. My mother and I have not thrown out anything of his that was radio/Fisher related, so we have extra parts, tubes, and wooden cabinets/cases in addition to the radios, but we are also unsure what to do with these items.

Below I have uploaded some pictures of his Fisher radios. I have additional images of each radio (the top, the back, the serial numbers, etc.) on my profile under my albums.

my condolences, nathalie. i didn't know your father, but that can't be easy. i wish the best to you and your mother.

just to say, that looks like a an FM-100c tuner (from top down), a 400 receiver, a 500c receiver, another 400 receiver, two mpx-100 multiplex adaptors, an an x-101-c integrated amplifier. a nice bundle of iron, all looking in pretty good shape (that top mpx-100 looks a bit dodgy, but that shouldn't matter, much). without stating value (this isn't the correct forum for that; i believe you should be asking in dollars and sense) anyone who might evaluate them would need to know if they've been refurbished (new electrical components, etc., as necessary), if they actually work, how long it's been since they have been working (if not), etc.

while i can't give you an accurate value, i can say it's a lovely bunch of fisher equipment, and that you should be able to get a decent amount for it.
 
Nathalie; Your Father and I were fairly close on this forum (both of us were Squids......Navy Vets). Very sorry to hear of his passing. The Questions asked are good ones. I do believe he did work on most all of the above gear. I'd have to research his threads, but it shouldn't take too long. Having said that, questions regarding worth are limited to the DOLLARS and SENSE Forum.

If he listed the serial #'s in the repair/restoration threads we can correlate each unit to a repair/rebuild thread. This will give you information on what was done and when, and whether each unit is able to be run now.

Hi Nathalie - I'm so sorry for your loss. I had done some work on some of the circuits for one of your dad's Fishers (the 500C I believe) for him, and we struck up a very nice on-going correspondence over time as a result. I never met your dad personally, but the friendship was none the less real. He will be missed here.

The big auction site is always a good place to get an idea of what things will move for, but when it comes time to sell, it might be well worth the $25 cost to become a Subscriber here at AK. That will then let you offer the equipment up for sale in Barter Town, where you can sell for no cost other than becoming a subscriber -- which you would no doubt recoup with just the sale of the 500C. And, you would be marketing the equipment directly to folks interested in the type of equipment you are offering for sale.

Good luck with your efforts to sell his equipment. He was a true Fisher fan, and no doubt has now told that to Avery personally!

I'm familiar only with the Fisher 400 as I have one. Working models seem to go for $400-500 sold locally on Craigslist in my area. Perusing Ebay, I see working models have sold in the the neighborhood of $700-900.

Thank you for all of your help, Dave. It's greatly appreciated. My dad spoke very highly of you when he would talk to me about this forum. Thank you for the information concerning where I can sell these radios, I'm definitely going to consider becoming a subscriber so that I can sell these radios to people who are most certainly interested in them.

The value somewhat depends on what tubes are in there. Do those units have cases? Can you easily take some pics of the tubes?
 
Did he leave any notes, and/or do you remember him opening any of these up with a soldering iron in hand?

BTW when checking value on ebay, make sure you are looking at 'completed auctions', check the box on the left hand filter bar. Then you will see what they were actually sold for, rather than asking BIN or starting price. I usually collect 10 or so prices and arrange in order, and the middle (median) is what I call the ebay price. Selling locally, or even here on AK, generally brings less because ebay is a worldwide market.
 
going through the pictures in larry's #4 i can see ibam/ibba boards, replaced can caps (some from hayseed), etc. clearly her father worked on these; there's even an "alignment by d.gillespie" sticker on one of them.

and if it was her father selling them, i'd suggest ebay (because he can detail exactly what's been done on them). not knowing that it means you have to say "as is" or somesuch, and lowers the corresponding value. conversely, if she offered them up at BT people here know her father, and know what he might have done to them by looking (or having seen the threads), and she might get a higher corresponding value (even accepting the BT discount). plus, knowing she's selling them for his estate, i'd hope people would be more generous in both their appraisals and in any looseness of her ability to declare what's been done to each piece.
