Need help S-Stop Kef 105.4

Hi,

I have a pair of Kef 105.4`s that I really like. One of them stopped working, I`m sure it`s something stupid but would like to know if someone here as had the same problem with those speakers.

I moved my speakers and wanted to adjust the head correctly, so I had to put them in Listening Window mode but I accidentally turned the knob in the wrong side (music was playing but at low volume) and it went on the S-Stop test only mode. The speaker just turned off and now I won`t turn back on.

I am not to sure what to do, take it to a tech or is it something simple like a fuse on the crossover or something like that.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks Bigx but these are for the 105.2...The 105.4 don`t have the same backend and I can`t find any information about fuses on them also.

Well, ending opening everything, no fuses at all. I took out the crossover, everything looked normal.. So I just tapped on the protection relay à couple of times... And by miracle it worked, speaker is ok now. Going to try to find a relay and change it.... Maybe do a recap of both crossovers.

don't be so quick to recap caps, they often used very high quality 2% tolerance caps.

There are threads on here on how the protect circuit in these older KEFs can play up - I think there are 1 or 2 caps in the protect circuit itself which may need replacing - ie: these arent the high-tolerance falcons. Recommend you do a search as this circuit is likely to keep giving you trouble otherwise.

Well, I took the speakers a part and nothing seemed swollen or burnt. So, hail Mary... Gave a couple of nudges on the protection relay... It worked, speaker is ok.

Weird, maybe it's time to cha he that relay I guess.

I would take a close look at the small non-Alcap branded capacitors on the crossovers. They go bad, leak, and eat the traces off of the crossover boards. Blue fuzz galore. This is hard to see without removing the crossovers and looking on the back side. I had to rebuild a set, and the traces were just gone. Caused all sorts of odd behavior.

I did the same recap and was underwhelmed by the outcome v opportunity co$t. FWIW, IMO, if you don't really need to recap, I'd stick with the originals, save the extra $ for finding, NOS 105.4 drivers, which come up ebay/etc., every once in a while. It's nice to have a backup set of each on hand, JIC. Also, it took me a while to figure out (slow) that the T33 SP1074 tweeters, for this model, don't use ferrofluid.
