Need help troubleshooting some issues

Hi all,

I need to talk this out with someone. Moved into a new house and finally get to open up the system and I'm having issues. I've mostly used the SL-230 in our old house, but since I moved, I have them both going. My old listening room was significantly smaller, so I never really noticed how much the SL-230 was lacking low end.

System:
T1: Beocenter 7000
T2: Technics SL-230

Marantz 2270 (recapped)

Early model Kef 104/2 (new surrounds and ferrofluid) - no Kef Cube, mine quit its on the list to fix

Symptoms:
The beocenter is very bass heavy but still sounds full, not really lacking highs.
The Technics is very bright with little bass.
Issues I need to fix:
(Beocenter volume slider) When running phono out of the Beocenter, the volume slider introduces a ton of distortion when moved. Bringing it over 50% cuts to one channel. Line out does not work.
(Beocenter tone arm/lifter) I can't seem to find a good balance for the tone arm and I think the lifter needs some TLC. It will drag off a record sometimes

New cartridges for both?
I don't know what my end goal is here... I don't want them to sound the same as each other, but I feel there is a good middle ground I can find.
Any suggestions on how what path to take to get there would be helpful. Im pretty proficient with repair, recapped the Marantz and fixed up the Kefs. Taking apart and cleaning the Beocenter would help I'm sure. That is probably my first step.

That slider most likely need cleaning after all these years if it hasn't been done already. A good contact cleaner like CNC, MG, Deoxit. Spray the contact cleaner into the slider and work the slider back and forth about 30 times. Then after cleaning add a drop or two of Fader Lube into the slider and work it back and forth a few times. This will help it slide smoother and keep it from becoming scratchy again. As for the Beocenter, I'm not familiar with B&O equipment myself. There isn't a tracking force adjustment? Maybe the stylus is worn, loosing the high end some?
As for the Texhnics sounding bright, that could be where your speakers are positioned. Your in a bigger room now. environments can have a big effect on how a system will sound. That room could be extending the high end. With a larger room your going to have more reflective wall and window area. Have you tried just turning the treble down some?
Try moving your speakers closer to the wall for more bass?
In a smaller room they may have sounded more bass heavy.
What cartridge are you using on the SL-230, a Shure M95ED?

Check the arm balance and tracking force on the Technics.
