Need help understanding KLH series 24 speaker

Got these yesterday, and I opened em up to see what caps I need to get to recap. And wanna make sure I get the right values. It doesnt seem to match other peoples posts. I attached a few photos. Looks to me I need to get 2 8.2uf caps inline with the yellow wire, but also there is the big red 2x2 cap and I don't know what to replace that with or even if I should. Mind you Im not brilliant at this but can get the job done with the right knowledge. Any and all help is welcomed, and thank you.

If I recall, the Model 24 is the same as the Model 22, but uses phono jacks instead of screw terminals?

I fixed up a pair of Model 22s last Summer...they used a simple 1st order crossover with 4uF capacitor, and a (I think 1.8mH) inductor.

I see the big red big thing is dual 2uF. So thats the 4uF and the inductor is the thing with screws. But whats the small caps inline with yellow cord doing? They are both a value of 8.2uF. My KLH 24s unit is the only one i see on the forums with these two caps there.

It appears someone had disconnected the red capacitor's red leads, and then used the two 8.2uF caps in series to probably to get 4uF.
The inductor is the laminated stack with the wire bobbin wrapped in tape around it.
You could probably disconnect the red capacitor completely, and replace the two 8.2uF caps in series with a modern 4uF polypropylene capacitor.

Thank you Mike! Yea with the original red capacitor still wired in a lil was confusing me more than it should have. You helped out big time. New 4uF caps or on the way. Thanks again.

I am not fully familiar with the Twenty-Four but I think you may be missing something here. KLH used lots of dual caps and as you can see, there are three wires coming from the original cap - - - two reds are positive and the black is a shared common. My understanding is that the dual caps within a single body really required two separate 2uF caps for different circuit elements. Instead of ordering two 4uF caps for this pair of speakers, I'd suggest ordering four 2uF caps just in case further research indicates a different wiring scheme from what you are considering. Even if I am wrong here, they can be wired in parallel to get your 4uF values.

You are correct
The ONE black exploding dual cap is replaced with TWO 2uF caps

It seems some Model 24s have first order for the tweeter, with a 8uF cap and a 3 ohm resistor in series. The woofer was second order with a 1.5mH inductor, and a 16uF cap connected in parallel. (shunted)
My Model 22s has the first order network for both high and low pass, like in this thread on classicspeakerspages.

http://www.classicspeakerpages.net/...5782-klh-twenty-two-model-22-cap-replacement/
there were two versions of the 24 network
most common is the two 2uF one where they used the two in ones
fortunately Harshman has his network right there in front of him

someone didn't understand what was going on there
those electrolytics are not KLH
take a look at the link I posted and about a million more here and over at Classic Speaker Pages
there's lots of good photos
are your tweeters correct?

Yes, but what Harshman cannot see is where those two red wires coming from the dual cap were originally connected. I think Mike nailed it in post #5.
there were two versions of the model 24
I had one of them and with the smaller black x2 PVC caps
I tried to find a schematic but did't have a lot of time for digging, the OP can do that
you and Harshman may be 100% correct but if it were my pair I'd still like to know as the OP said the red cap was a 2uF + 2uF not a 4 and 4

....the OP said the red cap was a 2uF + 2uF not a 4 and 4.
Yep, I agree, and that's why I think the 2 x 2uF arrangement was probably wired in parallel to produce 4uF - - - - and why some previous re-capper replaced with two 8.2uF caps in series, resulting in a 4.1uF cap value.
