need help with Mach 2 speakers

Hi All,
Need your help. My friend wants to get his Mach 2 Realistics re-caped, so we opened them up and unlike all the speakers I have seen till now, where crossover is right behind the woofer - these have it way high up behind the mid/tweeter. How do you get to it/take the whole board out? Is there a trick that I'm not aware of? whats the best way to do this? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

If it's held in with hot melt glue, then careful use of a putty knife should get it unstuck. If it's screwed in, you'll have to go by feel.

its screwed in but its very hard to get to a couple of the screws. Since i know that people here did re-cap on Mach 2, I was hoping to hear from someone who had done it with some pointers, so I dont screw things up.

Whats so funny? Its a stubby screwdriver for tight spaces.

Whats funny? well I can figure out that if something is screwed down, I will need a screwdriver to remove it. However, as I said before - some screws are hard to reach, so I was asking someone who had it done to advise the best way to do it. Someone who had worked on these speakers would know that screwdriver like that would NOT work as it wouldnt fit in there. So, to me it was more of a smarta$$ post than anything else.

If you pulled out the woofer and mid drivers it should give you easy access to the crossover.
Well, you would think that, but a Mid speaker on these has a basket that is fully enclosing back of the mid and it too is attached from the inside, so this basket itself is even more difficult to remove than the crossover. So, going via Mid doesnt work. Removing tweeter/mid pots helps some, but again it helps more to see things than to get to them.

Suggesting you use a short stubby ratcheting screwdriver is not helpful?
Dude, you need two Snickers bars.
Did you bother to even read my response above? Someone who worked of these speakers would know that a screwdriver like that is not going to fit - its short, but its too fat to fit in the two out of 4 screws. I know, some might think I am an idiot who cant think of using a screwdriver to un-do screws :dunno:, yet someone who knows what I am dealing with here would know that this type of screwdriver wouldnt work. Maybe thats why I was asking for an advise , cause obvious solutions didnt work in this case......

Well, whatever it was - it was not at all helpful, so I would appreciate some help from someone who had actually removed crossovers from Mach 2's and could tell me whats the best way to do that. Thanks
I've removed the crossovers from 4 mach 2's, and as you note, I recall they are a pain to get to, and no, theres not a trick. You just have to shove your arm in there and do it by feel. I did not use a stubby driver, but I did have a fight trying to angle a standard driver in there, so you may find a stubby driver will make it easier. Take the fiberglass out first and/or wear long sleeves to avoid irritation.

Now, this is a sound advice and thank you for that.

If all else fails, go in through the back of the cabinet. Just make an opening large enough to work through. Careful cutting will leave a piece that can be glued back in.

They also have these angled screwdriver type.I don't know what they're called but for lack of a term they are like half of a swastika. They are for getting in real tight spaces.I remember using one to remove the screws on dashboard speakers right below the windshield. This was many moons ago.

Angles from 0 to 90 degrees and anywhere in between. It also ratchets. Has saved me from a ton of frustration many times. I found it in the bargain bin at my local Tractor Supply for about $5.

Late post to the thread but did you haven to figure it out? Similar situation. Two screws are accessible on one end of the board and removed but I can not see or feel any other screws on the opposite end. Surely they could have glued this end could they?
